Redcurrants (Ribes rubrum) are native to Western Europe but nowadays grown and consumed fresh, frozen or processed worldwide. They are a great addition to various frozen fruit and berry mixes and also commercially grown for jelly, smoothy and juice production. A Redcurrant sauce tastes delicious with pork, chicken or fish.
The redcurrant season is from July throughout September, and they are harvested usually with a straddle harvester when the pearl-sized berries are rich in colour.
The berries provide Vitamin C&K and their skin of the redcurrants naturally contains a high amount of antioxidant like polyphenols and also cyanidins.
At Tobien Trading we offer Freeze Dried Red Currants in whole and powder, as well as products from organic and conventional farming.
